Michael Gamwo is the Honorary Consul of Ethiopia to Cape Town. He is permanently the Head of Africa at WESGRO.

As the Honorary Consul of Ethiopia, Michael Gamwo's roles are

• To act as Official representative of the Ethiopian Government in Cape Town
• Build and Maintain Trade, Investment, Tourism and Cultural relations between Cape
• Town, Western Cape and Ethiopia,
• Be the link between Ethiopian community of Cape Town and the Ethiopian Embassy in Pretoria
• Perform relevant consular activities on behalf of the Ethiopia Government.

In his Role as Head of Africa at Wesgro, Michael’s overall aim is to contribute to the growth, and development of the Western African region through facilitation of Trade, and outward investment between Western Cape and the rest of the continent, with a particular focus on countries such as Ethiopia, Angola, DRC, Gabon, Congo, Nigeria, Cameroon, Ghana Cote d’Ivoire, Senegal, Mozambique, Kenya and Rwanda.

For the past 5 years, Michael has led about 300 South African businesses and Investors on more than 50 Trade missions in African Countries, and has hosted over 600 business delegates and government officials from various African countries for inward missions to connect them with local South African companies.

In addition to his International Trade and Investment Promotion expertise, Gamwo successfully runs regular Africa business networking forums, which are a platform for business people on the continent to network and interact with South African companies, with the view of forming partnerships to explore opportunities in Africa. The success of these programs also rests on Gamwo’s ability to develop strategic partnerships with companies, governments, international organizations and NGOs operating in the African region.

Michael has featured in several local and international business magazines and tv programs such as SABC, CBNC Africa, ETV, Ethiopian TV, Cameroon TV, Nigerian TV, dealing with intra African trade and Investments.

Prior to working at Wesgro, Gamwo held Export Manager Positions at two Cape Town based companies, driving their penetration into African countries. Michael holds an LLB and a Master of Laws (LLM) degree from the University of Cape Town. He is also completing a Masters in development finance from the University of Stellenbosch.
